Memory Lane: How did you get here?

I believe I said in another post this week that I'm not totally sure how we found this site. Gator and I both believe it was through Swing Lifestyle. We'd been in the lifestyle a year when we found it. Reading through the archives and postings we quickly realized how lucky we had been to have it all work so well for us. The way things just fell into place and everything going well told us we had made the right decision to explore swinging.

Even with our luck, we still wished we had found this place before we began swining. It had (and still does) so much advice and information. The people here were so friendly and helpful. I truly think this is one of the best sites I've visited. Not becuase of the subject matter, but because of the people involved and Julie. We feel like friends are here and that we can come here for anything. We've recommended this site to others as well.

So how'd the rest of you get here?

I'm not sure exactly how the Board was found. Ted found it. I think he said either through a search or a link on another site.

He had been reading the Board for a while before I started reading...one night while lying in bed, him clicking around on his laptop and me on mine I looked over to what he was reading and asked about it. He told me it was a Swingers message board. I took a glance at it, didn't find it that interesting and went back to chatting in the chat room I was in. Our favorite club at that time had a chat room on their site and I spent a LOT of time in it.

As time went by, Ted would occasionally read a thread/question to me and we'd discuss whatever it was. At one point, he had me read a thread...I can't remember if it pissed me off or tickled me but I grabbed his laptop, asked if we had a profile/user name and how did I post. He told me our user name, what the password was and showed me how to post and from that point on I was hooked.

There have been very few days since I made that first post that I haven't read the Board...those days that I haven't were when we were on vacation and there was no internet service.

I'm not sure if there is a word to describe someone as more than an addict but if there were/is, it would describe me where this board is concerned. I may not post every day, but I read every day.

We joined the board early last summer while searching for information about which on-premise club would be best for our first visit. Can't remember for sure, but think it just came up as a hit on a google search. He had initially brought up the idea of the club visit, and she was interested but hesitant about what to expect, so we both were anxious to find out more. We were curious about the Lifestyle, but were total newbies.

There were other sites that had a few comments on different clubs, but nowhere that seemed to have the quality of the information here. Honestly, when we registered, we just assumed it would be a hit and run deal. Register to find out the specific info we were after, then be gone. But, we found the club info and so much more. The information we got from both reading the forums and from the other board members we have had the pleasure of meeting face to face has been priceless. Looking back, there are mistakes we suspect we would have made if it hadn't been for the Swingers Board.

Not having known any swingers before, and not knowing if what you read on other internet sites was accurate or not since they often just seemed to be based on stereotypes or fakes, the sincerity of people on this site was evident and gave us a much better idea of what swingers are all about. That is what has kept us around, the great people and the discussions here. Last but not least, it's a lot of fun too

I'm sure the fact that we just happened to be planning a meetup in the area of the clubs you were considering visiting didn't have anything to do with you sticking around Glad you did though!

It certainly did and that was very fortuitous timing Being new, we were really shocked when we were encouraged to attend the Meet-up but were nervous about it. Before the Meet-up, we had the chance to meet another board member for supper to answer any questions we had. Once we saw live and in person that actual swingers were just like us, that gave us more confidence we would enjoy the Meet-up, so we went. We had a great time, and although we did have a Swing Lifestyle profile up by then and had made some contacts, without a doubt the Meet-up gave us the confidence that this was going to be what we hoped it would be and to move forward. Since we were part of the this now, where better to hang out on the internet than the SB

How I found the Board? Ha ha, good luck on that one with me, I don't remember how I found the house I live in. I do have a vague recollection of a site call 'swinger's web ring', or some such name, and I think it must have been a link from there.

Anyway, I'm glad I found it, and the people on it!

It very well could have been through the Swingers Web Ring... those (Web Rings) were still popular back then

I joined twice. The first time was before our first trip to Hedo II. Since I have to research everything, I think I found the board through a Yahoo search. I lurked, I joined, and then after we got back, I don't think I came to the website again until we decided to start playing locally, just after our second trip to Hedo. In fact, we found out about Swing Lifestyle through this site. By then, I couldn't remember what my original login was, so I joined again.

Typically, I do most of the reading and replying. If there's a really interesting topic, I'll ask Drew what he thinks, and there have been times when he's posted, although he's not as into message boards as I am.

I'm so thankful there's a Swingers Board. I think we would have made a lot more newbie mistakes if it hadn't been for the board.

I'm curious how others found this place...

Mrs. Alura and I met in Germany when I was head of the import division of a corporation and she was the manager of one of the motorcycle shops owned by the other division. Normally, we'd never have met but a truck driver got sick and couldn't deliver a load of bikes to her store. I was the only one available who had a license for the truck.

We went out to dinner at what was then the only Mexican restaurant in Germany and were both in love before we left at about 11PM.

We went there the next night, too, and met a couple who invited us back to their apartment. They more-or-less invited us to play but, having just met, we went back to Mrs. Alura's apartment and spent the night making love. During that time we both admitted we wanted to play with the couple but sensed the possibilities of our new relationship and didn't want to jeopardize it by doing something without talking about it first. Unfortunately we never could find them again.

Fast forward through a relocation to Tulsa, marriage, a few play couples, and our first Mac.

We used to buy Penthouse magazine and read the "letters" to each other in bed. One night I found the Swingers Board and the Swingers Stories. I printed one off and we read it in bed. It was better (more realistic) that Penthouse so we started doing it regularly. As I recall, we were between play couples at the time.

If I remember correctly, George W. Bush was running for president at the time and the Board had a political discussion forum. I hated Bush (still do) and spent a lot of time trying to convince board members to vote for anyone else.

Eventually, Julie sought to defuse some of the venom by forbidding political discussions so we started posting about swinging. Some time later, Julie asked me to be a moderator and here we are.
