Having had enough hassles with my Hewlett Packard supplied Windows XP and the additional unneeded, take up a ton of disk space garbage they stick you with, I purchased Microsoft Windows XP separately. And lo and behold can no longer download Java. If any of you are having this problem and also cannot access SB chat or its additional plug ins here’s what I found: Microsoft is phasing out support of the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (MSJVM). After December 31, 2007, no updates will be available for the MSJVM. Customers are encouraged to stay informed about obsolete software and to transition from the MSJVM in a timely fashion. The table below (see Microsoft support for that) details the Microsoft applications that have been tested for MSJVM dependencies. Microsoft has created many applications over the years and is testing the most popular of those to ensure a thorough understanding of our MSJVM dependencies. MSJVM applications are products that include functionality designed to take advantage of the features only found in Microsoft’s implementation of the Java runtime (MSJVM). If the MSJVM is not available, part of the application will not work. Applications that are listed as having MSJVM dependencies also identify options users may choose to continue using application functionality without running the MSJVM. *Ahem* however I’ve found no such options listed. I’ve also found: MSJVM files are removed when you update a Windows XP SP1 distribution point with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or with Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, And in any case I hope someone here knows how those of us with windows XP that can no longer get Java might have a clue how to use the chat without it?

To get java now, you need to go to http://www.java.com and download java there. That should be all you need. |
