Reading History

As a moderator I have found it extremely helpful to glimpse into a few prior posts before replying with advice. Had I not done so, I may have given different advice. But since I know more about the person through their posts, I can hopefully be a better advisor.

I read the Board daily which helps me keep a mental tab of what's happening with many members. But with a member I'm unfamiliar with, who is dealing with a serious or troubling issue, I have found it really helps me see the "Bigger Picture" when I look back at a few of their recent posts.

That has never even occured to me. The only time I go back into the history is when someone said something that I liked, or wanted to respond to, or brought up a subject that would make a good new topic. For the most part, I get a feel for who the poster is just by my daily browsing. Interesting question....

Rarely will I ever read past posts unless it's an issue related to my mod duties. Sometimes I'll go back and look up an old post that I thought was a particularly good one on the issue at hand.

Mostly, I just type what jumps into my mind.

Since I'm nearing a mile of posts, I defy anyone to psychoanalyze me through information gleaned from my past ideas. If anyone wants to, however, have at it!

I have to admit I have looked at past posts if I see that someone has been banned (curiousity kills the cat I guess

) or if they seem unusually hostile in posts. Otherwise I get a feel for a person based on posts that I've read recently in threads
