Hi,all.

Just a silly question.I've been seeing that a lot of people have really cool display pics/avatars.I can't seem to find any good ones.Is there a mystic pool hidden in a dark realm where they are hidden?

Any leads?

Yeah, make your own.

At the bottom of the "Edit Avatar" page there is a "Use custom avatar" user box which will let you upload your own. I think you're limited to 75x75 pixels, but check on that.

You can load a custom avatar after you have at least 10 posts. I am having trouble getting mine to the size required. No matter how much i shrink it, the file size wont go below 25K. I gave up!

If it is a jpg you just need to increase the compression rate when you save it. On pictures this small you can use 50% compression without hurting the picture quality.

Thanks GT, but I've tried making it even the lowest quality possible and I'm still at 25.3KB. I've shrunk it by pixels, by percentage too but nothing works. I thought it was my program (HP Photosmart Premier) but I've downloaded a few other programs and none of those worked either. I've tried a few different pics too. Don't know what my problem is. LOL

We use our own pictures usually. You can get some cool ones though, go to google and look up avatars.

Wow, that is strange, you should be able to get a 75X75 pixel jpeg down to 15kb or so pretty easily. You might try converting it to a gif image, I am not sure if that would be smaller or not but it might be worth a try.

Is it a jpeg or an animated gif? If it's animated I can definately understand why it might not get down to the file size needed.

Yes that is true, I had to make mine slightly smaller than the allowed pixel size to get it below the limit. It is made up of 11 frames and is 19.75kb. In animated gif's you can reduce the file size by reducing the number of frames or making them all smaller. At 75X75 pixels, 12 frames would be about maxed out for file size for most animated gif's.

You also typically have to go in and play with each individual frame.
