Ok, I think I figured it out.
Go to the User CP, click on Buddy/Ignore lists. Then you should just be able to type in the screenname and click update.

Is that right?

What SexyShelby just said. If there is someone who's posts you don't want to see, then you just need to add them to your "ignore" list, which you can do from your UserCP under "Buddy/Ignore lists". However, it won't work on moderators.

Now curious, why would someone want to ignore posts from certain members? For me if I don't want to read a certain response I just go past it to the next one.

Threads usually follow responses from poster to poster, when you totally ignore one or two posters you might lose the entire vein of the thread.

As for inappropriate or problematic posts these are usually dealt with by the moderators quite effectively. It is nice to post on a site where things seem to run quite smoothly.

Why would anyone be allowed to block post in a public forum? Seems to defeat the purpose of this being an advice forum doesn't it? This is the first time I've seen a forum that allows one to hide the post of others. Doesn't the offending poster provide input even if one doesn't agree with their post?

Curious minds want to know.

There have been people who have made the infamous "Ignore" list. Often times when I am tired of them spouting the same unsupported inflamatory B.S. . Typically though, it seems that I end up re-allowing them as to follow the thread, like Amanda indicated.

Maybe she is getting unsolicited P.M.'s (not sure the ignore function works there, rarely do I use that feature)

Why allow it? Simple. Sometimes people clash and sometimes people clash badly enough that just seeing their posts is enough to set them off against each other. There are times when I personally would love to add people to each other's ignore lists (but I don't). Allowing this probably helps keep this place as friendly as it is. And I'd dare say that most forums have this feature if you look for it.

You said it best. In my case, there are a couple of posters who think they know every. damn. thing. and weigh in on every. damn. thing. It's just annoying to me. And I'm happier getting rid of things in my life that annoy me.

And I, for one, appreciate it here. Thanks Julie and all who answered.
