If you'd prefer, I can take you off my list if it's too much for you.

I just like to hear myself talk... in which case I guess I should start reading the posts out loud. LOL.

Yea, I was the geek that hardly ever got picked in high school either.

I pick "Good Times", because I am the hero in my personal fantasy world.

Interesting how a few people can take something simple and good like complimenting others and lifting them up, and turn it into their own personal dark hole of negativity.

Guess getting picked last in school still bothers some people.

Build a bridge... get over it.

Well, I'm just a hick Okie, but I'd say life itself is a popularity contest, and if swinging is like high school, well, ... I had a great time in high school and wouldn't miss a class reunion for anything short of hospitalization. Y'know, the people there were pretty intersting, too! A couple of them have become famous, but I'll bet they don't have as much fun on the Swingers Board as I do.

Default Re: Who is your Swingersboard Hero/Heroine?

Hey I'm just happy that anyone even listens to anything I say without threatening to send me off to the rubber ranch. If I made a positive impact, made someone laugh or even just created a light to go on then I am satisfied.

It seems like everyday someone new comes along and adds their own flavor to the point where one day you look back and wonder what life was like before they came along. So I couldn't say I have any one hero/heroine in this rogues Gallery. There are lots of people that have become friends of mine (or atleast there are in my own little brain), there are others that I look forward to their posts for various reasons. Some I am touched by the way they handle their personal lives and their relationships with their familes, others that I envy their sense of humour and general outlook on life. I wish I could take a little bit from everyone and make it a part of myself. (Ugh I am getting down right sappy here...I had best stop now before it gets ugly! )

Sorry if I offended you with my humor Dynamar, I guess it wouldn't be the first time my attempt at humor only seemed funny to me.

I will admit that these types of threads make me feel more uncomfortable than uplifted though, even if I am the one being complimented. Like EvilMJ said I enjoy everyones input, even if I don't always agree with them. I am not saying this type of thread is wrong, it just isn't my kind of thing.

I am sure some would think that if I don't care for a thread then why not just ignore it. True, but I guess I must be one of those that just likes to hear myself talk (another attempt at humor).

I like the fact that (even tho it may have been meant as a joke) some of you included names of some of our famous trolls (or borderline trolls). Personally, I think it's important to include those types of posters in a thread like this because they really do add so much to what this board is, in making us think about things and re-examine them in new ways.

Screw political correctness! Hail to humor!
I'm going to ask Mrs. Little Bird to nominate me based soley on
my incrediblly obtuse, obscure and opaque sense of humor.

But if I had to pick, I'd say though I agree most with the Tybees, I'd have to say the heroes of this board are those who make newcomers like us feel welcome (which of course includes the Tybees), and those who actually have the OPPOSITE of the oppinion I would agree with, but make so much sense that they force me to actually think.

I believe that everyone here has had something positive to say. I've not enjoyed all of the posts, and I've certainly not agreed with everything that's been written, however, I can certainly say I've learned from them. I admire all of the posters for whatever they’ve brought to the party. Some posters here write more eloquently than others, and they may get their point of view across without a stumble or stutter.

To those of you who've never played with anyone else, your opinions are just as valid and important to me as those who have been in the lifestyle half their life.

Honestly, I've always hated these types of lists because to me (read: this is my OPINION) they are elitist and cliquish.

I'm more with EvilMJ in if I'd made someone laugh, made someone think or even made a small impact, I'm happy.

Again, the intent certainly wasn't to create a popularity contest...I was actually trying to be constructive
So many boards have tons of negativity, and criticism flies every which way. The first purpose of this thread was to inject some positive energy, and give some props to the people who deserve it.
Since I'm a newbie, both to swinging, and to this board, it's also a good way for me to check out recommendations. The heroes I've mentioned are fairly frequent posters, and their postings drew my notice for their intelligence, humor, tactfulness, etc. But this board is so HUGE, I'm sure I'm not seeing everybody's great advice. So the second purpose...this is a way for me, and other newbies, to zero in on good advice. If you guys say that someone is your hero or heroine, then I'll probably remember their name, and I'll keep an eye out for that person's posts.
Of course, I read for myself and think for myself...but I can't read EVERYthing ALL the time. Make sense?

The problem with all such threads on any message board is they often become these are the people I like list, and are prone to foster cliques. Lets say I'm 'friends' with Spoo and I know Spoo and JnCC don't seem to get along, but I find some of JnCC's posts very informative. Do I list JnCC as a 'board hero' knowing he and my friend don't get along? Might that not upset my friend? If I like someone but don't find their posts very useful do I not list them and make them maybe feel hurt? Now being this is a swingers site SOME of the members have played with other members. Just add that to the mix. Maybe you want to play with such&such so you feel inclined to include them in your list even though their posts are pretty innane.

This is the stuff of highschool to be sure, but 'your favorite poster' or 'who posts do you like the best' or any variation of that will always turn into this sort of thing. In swingers threads it turns into flirt threads, and god help me, this board shouldn't turn into LL's boards :rollseyes

I think it also discourages people from posting. If no one seems to like their posts, and they don't get mentioned as a 'board hero' they may not post in the future.

So while your motives were pure, human nature can foil any pure motive.
