Threads that never end

I would like your thoughts on whether or not we should have a place set aside for threads (swinging related) that never end. By never end I mean threads that are general questions and/or polls that everyone can participate in. There is no right answer, just your answer and everyone else's.

We have a lot of really great threads like this, as well as polls, that end up getting buried, sometimes brought back up when someone runs across them, othertimes just forgotten.

So, the poll here, do you think we should have a separate forum where we can move those threads, to make them easy to find and participate in?

Another question:

If we did set aside a separate place for threads that never end. Should it be just one place - ie. A "Threads that Never End" forum on the main forum list

or should we do a sub-forum in each regular forum for those threads? - ie. within New Swingers all the New Swinger threads that never end, same for General Swingers, etc?

As a relatively recent member of this board...everything here is new to me. I think creating sub-forums under each heading for the threads that still remain pertinent regardless of when they were originally posted is a great idea! Hope to see it happen soon

Dito We're in the research phase here, and will be for a while. The number of bookmarked threads that we find particularly pertinent to all the topics we have questions about (or never even thought of!) has reached into ludicrously staggering numbers! Even though they're spread across numerous forums due to subject matter, they still have a universality to the "newbie" who's trying to gain info on swinging.

Question: How long will these bookmarks/favorites work? Is there a point where an ancient thread gets archived or deleted and the bookmarked link no longer works?

Luckily, the way the system works, even if the threads are moved to the archives, the URL will stay the same, so your bookmarks will still work. The only way they wouldn't is if they got moved to trash and chances are if people find them pertinent that wouldn't happen (they'd just get archived).

If you aren't familiar with the archives, you may want to check those out, as there is quite a bit of info there.

I like the idea, but want to call it something else. "Threads That Never End" sounds a little like a rest home for boring, repetitive threads...know what I mean? They're not really "Hot Discussions" either, I suppose. They're more like "Give Us Your Opinion" or "Tell Us What You Think". If you decide to do it, maybe we should have a naming contest, eh?

This is the first I've heard of "bookmarking" within the board. Maybe someone can explain this to me. I know how to bookmark whole websites within my computer, but that's it.

My concern--and maybe I'm not understanding how this will all work--is that the board might get so many forums, or places to seek info, that it get's too complicated and less maneuverable.

I'm a click-one-word kind of gal. If I have to dig too deep, or search too long for something, I get frustrated.

But then, I'm not real computer literate.

You bookmark a thread just like a website. Right click and add to favorites. When you go to favorites and click on it, it will take you right to this thread., or any thread you add to favorites.

I think that is what they are talking about?

This is what I consider bookmarking into my computer--through the Microsoft system I use. This is separate from bookmarking within the board.

I think I opened a can of worms.

I don't think they were talking about bookmarking within the board either - just that they had bookmarked (added to their favorites on their browser of choice) many different threads and posts.

That said, in a way you can create a list of favorite threads within the board. To do that, you would just subscribe to the threads that interest you and select the "no email notification" option. Once you have done that, you can see a full list of all threads you have subscribed to in your User CP. I use this a lot on other boards for threads I've participated in and want to be able to find easily later.

Naming: I agree that "threads that never end" would not be a good name choice, nor had I actually planned to call anything that.

So throw out some name ideas for a forum dedicated to threads that anyone and everyone can and should post to...

I'm thinking we may need to do two sub-forums one in General Swingers (for questions that can really only be answered by those with some experience) and one in new swingers (for questions that can be answered by newbies, those with no experience and well anyone). By sub-forum, I mean that it would not be listed on the main forum listing page, but when you click into the the above mentioned forum you would see the sub-forum listed there.

The other option would be ONE new forum added to the main forums list that would include all such topics - the downside of this is that newbies may go in thinking "oh threads anyone can participate in" only to find out that they really can't add anything due to "haven't been there, haven't done that".

Or maybe there's a third option I haven't thought of, if so please let me know

Here's a few examples of "never ending" threads that newbies might not won't have anything to add to....

Swinging Frequency Satisfaction?
Would You Still Swing without your current partner?
Who does the work when it comes to swinging?

and a few that ANYONE can add to...

How Old is Everyone and how long have you been swinging?
Would you perform a sexual activity just to please your partner?
Swinging with Kids in the House
Swinging is....
Full Swap, Soft Swap or?...

Still pretty new here myself, I can pretty quickly realize when a thread has lost it's original topic and is just ongoing chat. If I'm already caught up in it I'll continue with it. If I'm not I'll read a bit at the top and exit. I don't think any changes are necessary. I think when a thread has reached the 3rd page, sometimes even the 2nd, it's officially a "thread that never ends"

There's a difference between threads that have strayed to new topics, and threads that have a general question to begin with where everyone can simply post their own answer. In the latter it's not really a discussion but more of a poll type thing, where everyone can post their thoughts/ experiences as they vary from person to person. No one was looking for one particular answer. Again, you can see the links I provided above to see what types of threads I am referring to.

If it is for everyone, how about "Most Popular threads" or "Swingers Board Top ten list".

If it is to help those who are new maybe "Threads helpful to new or interested Swingers".
