Female Manicure/Pedicure Poll

Bama posted a male manicure pole and I tried to tease him into posting a poll for females. He didn't bite!:p

So this one is for the ladies...with appropriate credit given to Bama:

Fellow posters and long time poll followers, yet another proper swing etiquette poll to challenge you on this bright and sunshiny southwestern day! The basis of this poll is to find a common link, a niche in the swing community! Call it what you will but facts remain the same not all dewdrops are the same. The question I pose for you today is female nail care? Or lack of in some circles. How many of you out there have your nails manicured? Do you trim them short or do you carry a ladylike length to them? I realize that not all occupations allow for such highly groomed hand care, but still what is your degree of phalange sculpture?

I know how to do professional manicures and pedicures, so I tend to do my own. Altho professional once in a while is a real treat

I have long nails and I like french manicure on the hands and RED on the toes

I've not ever had the patience required to sit and have some one decorate my fingers and or toes. I'd go wacko just sitting there.

Plus, the idea... go to a salon? Pay a stranger to color your nails?? Sit there while they file and clip and ewww.

Just isn't in me.

Work requires lots of typing & I don't like the feeling my fingers feel when the keys are struck by nail instead of the tips of my fingers. Whenever that happnes I break out a little nail clipper I keep at my desk and trim the little annoyance away.

My nails, I think, so far in this life, may have been covered in polish anywhere under a dozen times. I'm not sure of an exact number.

I do not like the smell or the time it takes to paint, and then wait for drying.... please no.

Then to remove the stuff... talk about smelly..ewww

Then if you're nails are painted...the color would have to match your clothes - at the very least coordinate with your shoes... good grief, I'd not ever be finished getting ready to go anywhere.

Keep it simple. No extra chemicals, no painting, please no.

The female who does my hair also does my fingernails. We have quite a cleverly balanced and choreographed routine of the process - all of which fits nicely into one appointment. I go approximately every 4 weeks - sometimes sooner, sometimes a bit longer.

I was a nail biter in my childhool on up to early adulthood. I was in my early 30's before finally breaking myself of the habit. So I am quite proud of my nails - and how much nicer my hands look. My "manicure" primarily consists of having a liquid gel coat applied to my own nails - no caps needed. The gel helps keep them long and strong. I rarely have color painted on - preferring the more natural look.

Now pedicures are a different story entirely. I have found a gem of a place that does a full spa pedicure for $20. They have these huge comfortable chairs that heat and vibrate for you to sit in - elevated for easier access for your pedicurist. The basin area has its own faucets and drain. There's a whirlpool thing going on for the first part of the treatment that just feels divine. Part of the service is a wonderful moisture lotion massage of the feet, ankles and up the calves to the knees.

Feet look better and feel better. It is a truly pampering thing to do and well worth the $20. This too tends to be about every 4 weeks - but I try to pick a time when I am feeling in need of a bit of pampering.

Like Yawanna - I like my toenails painted red!

I've had times I have taken care of all these "maintenance" chores myself - but having them done by others turns a necessary task into a self-indulging pleasure.

I get a professional manicure every couple of weeks. I deal with the public all day and believe that well groomed hands give the finishing touch to any outfit. The polish is always numerous colors swirled together (the designer calls it marbled) and makes for a nice conversation piece. "Funky" nails has become my trademark and it is amazing the number of people that have stopped me just to check out the design. In the summer I have my toes done to match but tough out the cooler months with a color that I have on hand.

***Disclaimer*** Nails...this might belong in the whiners, moaners and groaners thread.

I did the manicurist nail thingie for a couple of years. To me it was a royal pain and I really didn't care for someone fondling my hands. Just me I suppose.

I've always had very nice nails, really no need to put the fake ones on, however I will say that the fake ones keep polish on much longer as no natural skin oil gets to them. The only advantage that I saw to it.

For the last week I've been running between two households due to some family medical complications and when I get stressed, I clean. I mean REALLY clean. No chemical on the planet is exempt from my spraying, dusting, sanitizing, scrubbing... In the last two days I have broken 4 nails down to the quick. As we are going out this weekend, I'm starting to think a set of fake nails would be just fine, if I could only find the time to work it in.

I guess maybe we are the Odd Couple........I (Husband) do Rhonda's nails, being a perfectionist i'm getting really good at it. Rhonda was a nail biter up until a few years ago, now her nails are gorgous. She had them done once professionally and we decided then that we could do them just as well. Our favoret color is bright-red. Matches her mood,

I do both manicure & pedicure and my hair myself. I have never in my life been to a beauty/hair salon. When I was a little girl, my mom did my hair, so I learned from her how to do my own.

I always feel really guitly buying myself anything, and these are the things that I buy for ME. My life revolves around kids, both mine and other's, and I have no time to go shopping like some women do, or do my hair and make up everyday (nor do I want to LOL) so every 2 weeks I get my nails done unless they are looking ok, then I'll wait 3 weeks. I get my feet done every 4 weeks. I prefer a french tip on both my feet and my nails. I pay 5.00 extra for it, but like I said, I don't spend my money on me in any other ways (that aren't associated with the whole family) so I don't care

My salon has a chair like wrnakedru *by the way, I just figured out what your name said, that's cute!!* and it feels wonderful whem they massage your feet and make them look all pretty

Finally someone opened a day spa in the little area I live in. I have a standing appointment every two weeks there for a manicure, pedicure, massage, and facial...occasionally I feel like a mud pack (or one of their other great processes) and will opt for that. It takes half the day and around $200 but when I walk out, I feel totally revitalized and refreshed. I have had either acrylic (what I have right now) or ceramic nails for mmmm going on 16 years now as I wasn't blessed with strong fingernails. What God didn't give me, my nail tech Laura does!

I generally opt for red polish on my toes but will occasionally do a pink for a few weeks. In July, after I had gotten nice and tan I did a color called Rock N Roll Blue on my nails...it looked great against my tan toes!! It was a bright, electric blue between baby blue and a medium baby blue. Now I'm back to the standard Fuck Me Red.

I love to go for a mani/pedi. The girl I go to is very cool and I've been going to her for years so every time I show up we catch up like old girlfriends. It's relaxing and fun.

A year or so ago someone gave me a gift certificate to another salon for a mani/pedi and it was so uncomfortable and anything but relaxing because they were set up in a way that they did both at the same time. That would be great for someone who doesn't have the time for it but needs it done, but I go for the relaxing.

Oh, I LOVE getting pedicures. The relaxation, the pretty polished feet and gorgeous toes!

I usually only get them about every 3-4 months, and in between I keep up with it. But after too long you just need it professionally redone.
