well we both shave also... krisy has never experianced anything except maybe....curiosity at her hood piercing. I on the other hand was quized by his doc the first time. after 2-3 questions i realized it was actually of medical concern. he kinda jokes with me anyways (i welcome this behavior) so the first question was if i had a medical procedure he should know about. followed by why and how... then he gave advice on saftey precations and razor burn prevention. told me i was the first guy he had ever see that was shaved instead of just trimmed. he is a kinda younge doc mid 30s maybe and i have been seeing him since he was pretty much fresh outta med school. he even discussed krisy's piercings with us....although he has never seen them and does not personally aprove of body mod (says is medically unsound) he was more than willing to give us medical advice about them and did not try to talk us out of them.

I was a bit concerned about going for my first check up after I had shaved off all my pubic hair. But I need'nt have been because my doctor (male) and his nurse did'nt bat an eyelid. I guess they had seen it all before. At the golf club I was a bit embarrased when I took my first shower after I shaved. I got a few looks from some of my friends but no-one said anything. Now they all take my nice shaved look for granted. Indeed a couple of them have trimmed their pubic hair but have not shaved it all off yet.

Speaking as a health professional (Mr Purangel is an RN) we are taught & drilled into our heads from day one in school to be "non-judgemental". That said one can never totally remove all their upbringing & personal morality when presented with new clinical observations. I've worked in ER's, Hospitals, and Long Term Care facilities long enough to have seen most everything. Believe me if the doctor or nurse makes faces at a shave genital area, they have not been practicing very long. Or their preconceptions of morality is coming to the surface. Myself, I've seen em shaved, waxed, minimal bush, Huge forest bush, fresh smelling, smelling like urine/feces, smelling like something has crawled up there & died.......... Makes no nevermind to me, if they are nasty I counsel them on proper hygiene practices or refer them to their physician for treatment for a disease. I don't make judgements about how they decide to groom/not groom the genital area. Overall hygiene, I will comment about it in a professional manner. Most physicians/nurses see so many people in a day we won't remember them outside the clinical setting such as at Walmart shopping. In other words, ignore the looks the doc/nurse gives each other. Respond to any snickers, disapproving tones in voices, or other condensending tones when receiving instructions about your pevlic areas. If that happens, find a new doc. Remember you hired them, not the other way around & be public about why you are choosing a different physician. |

I have been shaving for many years and introduced my wife to shaving. As a typical guy, I had insurance and had picked a primary care physician, well, actually my ex-wife had picked. Well, I had a situation come up that required me to go see the Doc, as I had never met the Doc, I was in for a bit of a surprise, she is an attractive early 40s lady. She took care of the imediate need, and scheduled me for a physical a couple of days later. That night was the "oh shit!" moment when I realized that I was going to go to the appointment sporting a full shave. No time to grow hair. So the morning before the appointment I shaved smooth and figured what the hell! When it came to the moment of truth, she didn't even blink an eye. I have come to respect her and she is a great doc. So from a male perspective, I just make sure there is no stuble when I have an appointment. S |

A local woman in our group of lifestyle friends has told stories about going to see her gyn.. Who at first was shocked to see a mid forties woman with a piercing, since then she has added to them, and has 5 one thru the hood, and two on each side.. Since the last round her appointment was a laugh session when the doc took a look and said, I see more sparkle.. and then asked if she felt like a teenager, cause thats where he has seen them. My wife ran into it once as well, with a trip to the ER, for a gall bladder attack, and of course they "gowned" her.. She was on the gerney and the doc came in, lifted the sheet, then the gown and started the exam.. when he finished and left, She was more shook up over it than he was.. but the crack up came when the nurse came in and after giving the Doctors orders and scripts, commented on us being smart to use a double or triple blade razor, they "just work better".. As far as judgements go, I ran into them a few times at the gym, after a nice sweaty work out headed to the sauna and shower with the "boys" exposed.. Was definately a Dr Suess moment.. "oh the sights you'll see" or the looks you'll get Joke 'em if they cant take a fuckin' |

I went to a urologist, who was an older guy. I'd been meeting with him for a while about my possibly being sterile. I made it a point to talk with him before the examination, and for an older guy, he was a cool cat. During the physical examination, he questioned me about the fact I was shaved(which I knew was for medical reasons), then asked "Has your luck gotten any better?" at first I didn't understand, then it dawned on me, and we were both laughing for about five minutes until I could get my shit together and stop laughing. To date, this remains the strangest situation I've been in over my twenty years of life. On topic though, if the nurse was new, they probably haven't had the "I don't care." mantra drilled into their head yet. The most you could really do is talk to your doctor about it, and try to not get too flustered. Lets face it, if she was looking without needing to, she might of been digging it. |
