It’s best to speak to a dermatologist who has been trained and is certified in laser hair removal, especially if you are of Mediterranean or Hispanic descent. Not all lasers are created equal and not all can be used on certain skin colors. Consulting with a dermatologist (and I would get at least 2 opinions) is best. They will be able to tell you if you are a good candidate or not. I’ve thought about having it done, but it will cost approximately $2,000 and I just worry that something will go wrong. No matter how good a doctor is, you always have concerns. Good luck. PS: try waxing. Depending on your hair growth, you will be smooth for about 2 ½ weeks and won’t have to worry about the bumps. |

I wouldn't be too upset about it. Some women, like men, have more hair than others. However, if it makes you feel uncomfortable it is an issue. I have not had the hair removal, but I know ladies who did it. They said it is not bad, it feels like someone is tinging you with a rubber band. Have you tried things like nair for bikini area? That is not a good area for shaving, I'll give you that. Maybe try that and see what its like.

I would definately do laser again if I could afford the cost. I am hispanic and have hair all sorts of places that is thick... happy trails to my BB, back side near butt - slight mustache and of course thighs.... I did all the facial hair and it was awesome, now saving for the happy trails. Nair/Veet okay but permanency is da' best! Pain was minimal - but they advised I take an 800 mg motrin 1 hr before procedure and it totally helped. And dont do it the week before your period. -Cat |

I am currently doing the laser hair removal. I tried the brazilian waxing first and found it to be very painful in the beginning. The cost of the waxing was adding up so I thought I would try the laser. It is true that it is expensive, but if I add up all the cost for the professional waxing it really isnt that bad. I am having my underarms and bikini area done. Im only on my second treatment but so far im pretty impressed. It seems to work on my underarms the best but I have noticed that the hairs are definitely thinner. I think its less painful than waxing and I would agree it feels like a rubberband snap. They sell a cream that is suppose to help with the pain so that is an option if your worried about the pain. Im only keeping a landing strip area and the rest is going to be gone. I would say so far its worth the extra money.

Wow....I love this site,I always find things I'm looking for... I too, am having serious questions about hair removal. I am one of those fair-skinned Finns(I have to admit, there's some truth to the saying,"you can always tell a Finn but you cant tell 'him' much"... Anyway...I'm not sure if part of the reason my skin is so "sensitive" is being so white I'm almost transparent, I almost always burn, even when being careful, and then go back to white again, lol.I don't remember who gave me the advice of using hair trimmers or clippers right down to the skin, carefully...and this seemed to be the only thing that worked in the troubling bikini area... But then...I was with a woman who really encouraged me to try shaving, everything...and that if I did it long enough, that the irritation should stop.Well,I liked the idea of feeling the way she did, she has shaved there for years and it felt so nice! So I started shaving...ouch, I've done it for quite a while, but find my skin is almost always irritated, though it did get better after continued shaving, but better, for me is still pretty irritated It has to be done often, and once out of desperation(I might go back to the trimmers, who knows)I tried this hair removal product, and it was supposedly specifically for the private area...and reading the directions, and using advice from someone who it does work for, I went ahead.....and then I was reminded of why I never tried that method after past failures, even on legs This was past "irritating" and to something out of a horror show, and very painful, and I did everything to the letter...so..back to shaving.I was browsing through the hair removal aisle in my local shopping haunt, and spied the waxing kits....and of course, this kit reads wonderfully, specifically designed for that area (okay this sounds familiar ) I love the thought of less hairgrowth, and for the length of time I could go without repeating...well almost anything beats an everyday mini-project in the bathroom with a razor for me! However...even though the directions sound simple enough, and I do have a good pain threshold, I'm not wanting to repeat the bleeding mess that resulted from using the hair removal creme(depillatories?).I can handle a little soreness if it works well, and I was really wondering what experience women have had with waxing... This thread has already been very informative, and I love the fact that I am indeed learning something new everyday! Waxing was mentioned a couple times..and it sounded like it probably is like anything else, has it's pro's and cons. Now I'm simply wanting to find a comfortable place, and I want to feel as good in my skin physically,as I've finally been able to really feel good in my own skin otherwise. |
