HELP! I'm chaffed and itching from shaving

Thanks for all your help. Turns out to be heat rash.... I decided on a whim to try some baby powder w/ cornstarch....
It has been helping alot!!!!

Besides lots of the roots come out and there is less hair every time. The trick is to do it often (or have it done... a lot nicer...), then the hair gets soft and it also hurts less.
I also find that if I exfoliate there is hardly any ingrown hair.

What is this? Are you saying you can use sugar as opposed to shaving? Do you make a paste of it? How long do you leave it on until you rinse it? I am really curious. The whole shaving thing drives me nuts, but I do it because I love the extras that it adds to sex!

I am glad to see that while I was sleeping she was answering on the board .... the fact is that when I am up because it's the day here it's the night for her and "vice versa". So in the morning the first thing I do is to go on the board and look if she had wrote something. Hurray it's her second post here

Lori You'll have to be patient for a new answer because she is less addicted to the board than I am. All I can say about sugar is that ithis method is well known from Arabic people and Indians (the people from India). As you know there are many Indians, Pakistaneses and Chineses in Vancouver. She used to go to be sugared at an Indian female shop (specialised in removal of unwanted hair). Arabic women are making a paste made of water, sugar and lemon juice and they apply it on the skin just as You could do with wax. I assume it's more or less the same ancestral recipe...

Sorry Lori, its not as easy! As JC mentioned, it is used instead of wax. But the way it is removed, is the same, it gets ripped off. I find if I do it regularly, it is less sensitive and the regrowth is much less. I am actually able to do it myself. To decrease the pain, only use small strips of material, especially in the pubic area. It takes longer to do but is less painful. The hair grows back softer than if you shave. I have been waxing my legs for almost 4 years now and have very little hair left. I could use tweezers ... if I could see the back of my legs!

The product I use is Wax-A-Way, Sugar Formula. The company is Five Star Brand. This particular product is made in Canada. If you are unable to find it, there is a phone number on the box. I could e-mail it to you as I am not sure I am allowed to post it here.

I have also asked a friend to get me the recipe for it. She hasn't called me back yet. As soon as I have it, I shall post it. Iranian women make a ball somehow and roll it over the skin. I am also waiting for the recipe on this one. It would be easier to use on the back of the legs. But I haven't seen this used.

A few things that help me;
use sensative skin shaving cream. No perfumed products.
Shave with the hair. not against.
Use a good razor that wont nick - Venus is great
Make sure blade is clean and good.
Try not to shave it all close the first time .
Don't hurry.
Air dry and wear cotton panties at first.
Don't use lotions or scented products at first.

Keep Shaving! The one thing that seems to work for most of us.
These help me. Everyones different. I hope something is helpful.

How do you deal with razor burn and stop it from happening?
How do you deal with the itchies after shaving?

I LOVE the way it looks but HATE the way I feel!

BTW, it's not a complete shave, more like a large landing strip.

I use an electric razor after trimming down the bulk -- it cuts close but no scratching and it doesn't itch afterwards and there is no razor burn.

A friend of mine (21yo) uses waxing by a pro -- too painful and costly for me...

LadyCleo, I merged your thread with a couple of others as they all deal with shaving. There are some excellent pointers in here. I've found quite a few that work for me. Especially using the Dove deodorant.

I’m not sure if this advice will help you but will try my best. As a man I shave everyday (face, neck) razor burn was the biggest problem for years. Then one day I found gel. Shaving gel. It’s worked like a charm for a long time. It conditioned the skin so much I only use shaving gel ever other time to shave. Now im not sure if that will help but I guess my point is your skin will condition itself the more you shave with a familiar product.

I responded before regarding the Seiko Cleancut shaver which I still use or touchups.

But, I've discovered a new razor that is fabulous!! It's Schick's "Intuition"!! The blades are surrounded by soap and moisturizer and I've never gotten such a close and clean shave before. I'm so smooth now! Just like a baby's bum. I really can't say enough about it. Try it...you'll love it!!

I have the worst problem in the bikini area. No matter if I shave or use dipilatories it still itches, rashy...you know the drill. This past summer while looking through a Ladies Home Jounal they published some tips on beating the bikini area troubles. The best treatment is a solution of salicylic acid used two to three days before shaving, and then applied two times a day afterwards. They listed a couple of products which you could buy, unfortunately I didn't get the names. I probably wouldn't have puchased them anyway, they were around $45 for 6oz.

Salicylic acid is nothing more than asprin. So I took some regular strength asprin, ground them up, and mixed them into some moistuizing lotion.(hypoallergenic, unscented) I used this like the magazine had said to do, and was amazed at the difference it made.

I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but after all the years of scratching and suffering I can shave without dreading it now! Hope you find something that works for you!
