I think that if it will make you feel better, then go for it. Mrs. Spoo obviously likes you as you are but I imagine she'd be behind you a 100% just because it is something you want. As to not getting playmates because of them? I can't see why that would matter. Though I really do understand the worry. I've had to have extensive dental work and I've thought my smile was my best feature. It is a long story, but it ends with a partial and I was insecure about it (am still a little) and not happy with it at all. But, it isn't the worst thing to have happened to me. You'll me cute with braces...I just know you will.

I LOVE men who take care of their teeth. But, if you are sensitive about the look, you may want to try invisalign. I have worn them for two and a half months and I love them. I can see such a huge difference. I have always wanted perfect teeth. WEll, I will settle for nearly perfect

By the way, my dentist said that I have to take them out every time I eat...hmmm...think about the questions I could ask him lol!!

There are a lot of reasons why people wouldn't like me. Braces wouldn't add to that already staggering list (I know that wasn't your point, it just made me chuckle )

Seriously - you are right. My braces probably won't add or detract much at all and I will probably get the ones that are tough to notice.
I am quite good at those inelegant turns of phrases, aren't I? In my own defense, it was 5:30 a.m. (but since I say stuff like that to you at 5:30 p.m., it's not much of a defense ).

As to your braces, I'll just throw out my real-life standard phrase of "do as you wish" and tack on a "and do what will make you happy" for good measure.

The rest usually will fall into its proper places whether you worry about it and the consequences or not.

My sister got braces in her mid thirties. She's very happy and it seems to be a huge self esteem boost for her. I was proud of her, so many people would write it off at that point in their lives.

Spoo, I think your personality could overcome anything. Seriously you are really fun to be around and really seem like you could be the life of any party. And something like this will help both your confidence and your looks. And from everyone's responces around here it would appear it wouldn't hinder playing. I remember kissing a girl in grade school with braces once, I never remembered a difference.

Thats the best advice I can give you from a guy's perspective.

Spoo, what has teeth-straightening got to do with your chin? I don't understand.

Have you had the consultation for the braces yet? How long do they think you'll be wearing them to get the correction you need? I think it's exciting to make changes that you really, really want for yourself! I know how it feels and what a boost to your self-esteem positive changes can be. I vote, go for it!!

My baby girl is a shy college freshman, and she just got braces several weeks ago. Being a shy girl and around all these new people, she wishes she didn't have to do braces right now, but her dental problem is very new and just developed in the past year (couldn't have done it earlier). She got an adjustment this week and was very excited to learn that her teeth have already moved. She's on her way.

I was blessed with a mouthful of perfectly straight teeth. I truly appreciate it. Mr. Tybee needed braces all his life, but his family couldn't afford them. Now he's a man, and won't do it because he's an adult. I wish he'd do it for himself, and not worry about what people may think. I know that he'd be smiling a lot more, and I love to see him smile unselfconsciously.

You go for it!

You can have a perfectly straight set of teeth, but have a underbite/overbite, etc. Braces can assist in resolving some "jaw issues" , for lack of a better term. I believe that a jaw alignment issue was the reason ol' Tom Cruise ended up with braces a couple years ago, despite the fact that his teeth appeared to be straight.

And apparently I don't understand either

I have already received some advice from a person "in the know" who said braces alone won't do it. But I would imagine that will be a part of the whole picture.

I am just at the point where I've decided that I can either keep whining about it or fix it. And - it will probably make a difference more in my self-concept than in any real "visible" changes - but it is worth it if I like what I see in the mirror and in pictures.

I appreciate the encouragement!

There are a lot of wonderful swinger's board women who can now have their choice of the following:

a. Lap Dance
b. Foot massage
c. Pack of Ramen Noodles

Just my little way of saying thanks

Thanks, Spoo...I'll take the lap dance! facelick

A quick and easy fix, if you're looking for more of a chin projection, is an implant. As cosmetic procedures go, this one is pretty minor compared to most others. The incision is usually placed within the mouth so there is no visible scar at all. If it's a larger implant, it's a small incision under the chin and barely noticeable. Maybe something like this can be done in conjunction with the braces?? Worth checking into, anyway.

Male patient #19 on this page had pretty impressive results: http://www.cosmeticsurgery-boston.com/nosechin.html

Omigosh, you should see the man on this page, what a difference: http://orangecountycosmeticsurgery.c...lant/index.htm
