I never lost feeling in one nipple, but the other nipple took 8 months for full sensation to come back. I still have small areas on the outer sides of each breasts that have no feeling. I may never get all of my feeling back, but I've read it may take up to two years for feeling to come back. In a small percentage (less than 10), there's permanent numbness.

Oh, and one other thing....overs aren't necessarily any real-er or fake-r looking than unders. Mine look very real and they're overs. If you have some existing breast tissue, it's more likely that they're going to look real no matter which placement you have.

My nipples lost sensation for about a week, then that started coming back. Occasionally, they still hurt. I think the nerves are still regenerating a bit. I had a lift also, so they had to move the aureola.

Like Pepper, I have a small area of the sides that don't have any feeling, but it's not anything that I even notice unless I rub my hands up and down there.

What's the difference between the two procedures?

Is it more of an invasive surgery for unders? Do they cost more than overs?

Is the recovery time different for each procedure? Does one hurt less than the other?

The difference is that one is over the pectorial muscle and one is under. Here's the specifics with illustrations, etc. http://www.breastimplants4you.com/br..._placement.htm

As far as the pros and cons:
1) Your implant may distort when you flex your pec muscles with unders
2) You may lose a little muscle strength with unders
3) If you have some sag, you may get double bubble with unders, which means you can see where the implant is, and then under that where your real breast tissue is
4) If you have little breast tissue, unders may hide ripples better
5) Overs have a lower rate of cancer detection from mammograms
6) Overs have a higher rate of capsular contracture (although, on some of the boards, most of the ladies that get cc have unders)

Yes, unders are more invasive and they say that unders have a longer and more painful recovery, but to me, being cut is being cut. I wouldn't say my recovery was a walk in the park.

As for me with my PS, unders wouldn't have cost any more than overs, but each surgeon is free to set his/her own rates, so your mileage may vary there.
