| Posts: n/a | I'm considering having breast surgery and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on finding a doctor, type of implants, etc. I don't want huge breasts but would just like to regain some of my former firmness and perkiness and maybe go up one size. I've heard that silicone is nicer than saline. Is it possible to get silicone anymore? Any advice or experiences would be appreciated. |

I also believe that silicone is the way to go for a more "natural" feel. From what I understand from watching Discovery Heath and O! and other stations that have plastic surgury shows, saline leaves a tactile "ridge" or line between your normal breast and the implant. (But please check with whatever doctor you choose as boobs are my hobbie, not my profession so to speak.) As for choosing a doctor. I think the main thing to concentrate on here is research. Interview the doctors you are interested in. Get references and check with them. Ask about the doctors bed side mannor. How well (s)he'll describe the operation, the risks involved, recovery time, etc. Do your own research on these issues too. Take your time. Don't go simply by how much they charge. While that may be one of the factors don't make it the deciding one (unless everything else is equal.) Also remember that breast augmentation surgury is not a one time thing. You'll probably need to replace the implants in about 10 years. Either just to change them becuase they wear out. Or to adjust them back up to where they belong. (I heard that on one of those shows too.) Good luck with whatever you choose.

| Mmmmm...tasty! | Silicone is more real feeling than saline. However, silicone is not available for general use in the United States. Silicone's only available through certain PS's and you must participate in a 5 year study and meet certain criteria (reconstruction, breast lift, second set of implants). There's a new type of implant called cohesive gel silicone, which instead of being a liquid gel, it's more like the consistancy of a gummy bear...a little more solid. Those are only available through certain PS's too and involve a 10 year study. Silimed and Mentor are the manufacturers who currently have clinical trials for those. For most, saline is the only option available. Although rippling is an increased risk with saline, there are women with saline who have no visible or palpable rippling. It depends on how much breast tissue you have to begin with and the thickness of your skin on whether you will have rippling. There are a number of sites that have a wealth of information, including implantinfo and yestheyrefake. These sites have pictures, message boards and reams of information on everything from placement, to types of implants, to types of breast lifts. And, although implants are not a lifetime device, you won't necessarily need to change them every 10 years. Some last much longer than that, and some not as long. Good luck and if you need additional information, just PM me. Pepper

| Swingers Board Addict Join Date: Jun 2004 Posts: 298 Location: california Status: happily, ecstatically married | I'm planning on getting implants and have been researching for about 2 years already...I won't be getting mine for a few more years. Saline implants are more apt to have ridges when the implant is not properly filled.Apparently, they are made to be filled to capacity and a lot of surgeons just don't put enough saline in them. As for silicone? I will NEVER get those. Silicone has been linked to females getting Lupus, their hair falling out...fatigue,arthritis, you name it.You have to realize that your body reacts to anything foreign and tries to attack it, and the implant in and of itself is a foreign object...but the silicone is even worse, because the body can't absorb it and eventually, after trying so hard to fight of this foreign body, your immune system turns on you. Saline implants haven't had such a bad rap because even if there is some leakage, the saline is a natural part of your body chemistry and is just reabsorbed.I know 3 people who've had implants and the saline ones are the least likely to come with risks. When you get the surgery, please do a lot of extensive research on your PS...that is extremely important. And, another suggestion?Watch a lot of shows with regards to these types of surgeries, and research on the web, you can find before and after pictures on a lot of different websites....I wish you lots of luck!!! ![]()

She has saline(Mentor high profile filled to 600cc...a nice big DD!!) as silicone is only available for reconstructive surgury...and yes the most important thing is research..interveiw as many doctors as you can before you decide who to go with. Her doctor was awesome and was right on the money as far as how big to go... Another thing to remember is that they keep getting better looking as time goes by...at first they looked really fake ..but now 6 months later they are unbelievable!!!! I never really cared about big boobs before...but now i'm like a kid in a candy store!!!!! Mr B facelick |

I have noticed in small strip clubs ladies with very unnatural looking breasts.. nipples off center , odd shaped and even a few that looked like the surgeon used softballs! Keep them real!!! When clothed they tend to look fine ![]() |

basically what you have to remember is that its called augmentation...not replacement..what you start with is what defines what you end up with...some women just go too big...and some doctors are butchers...you have to find the best doc ..... I would never have suggested my wife get hers done but the difference in her self esteem is amazing.....while you may like any boob, alot of women have issues with how they look as they get older..so i'd rather have a happy wife with big fake boobs than a miserable one with natural ones..... Plus they are sooooooooo much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr B facelick | |

Ladies, if there's one thing we all should take from this thread is to- DO YOUR RESEARCH AND HOMEWORK- when it comes to this or any type of plastic surgery!! I,too, have seen some really bad pictures of boob jobs that just went terribly wrong. Some of these doctors aren't even board certified{which is very important}...so,ask to see before and afters of his/her other patients, even go so far as to ask to speak to a few...The one person who cares about you the most besides your children and husband is YOU!!Again, take your time and do your research and homework!!
