Hello Everybody,
Here's the update. We had another meeting with this couple. Again it didn't really work. It wasn't so drama filled. He just declined to go ahead with things once we were naked. So we went home a little disappointed but without all the awful awkwardness of the original incident.
The next weekend they invited us again. I was planning on just declining the invitation but Laurie told me to "just give them one more try" with that little twinkle in her eye.
We went to their house for pizza and fun afterward. Everything went perfectly. No troubles. We had a great time.
On the way home I was chatting with my sweetie. I told her that I wondered why there was such a big change. She giggled and told me that after the last aborted attempt the man had called her the next day. She had told him that either they wanted to have sex or they didn't. If they didn't that is perfectly fine. We have lots of friends with whom we don't have sex and more of that sort is always welcome. We would be perfectly happy to know them as vanilla friends. Then she dropped the hammer on him.
She went on to tell him that if that's how he wants it he should say so up front because she would not tolerate anyone teasing her husband that way. If there were any more incidents like the hotel we would never see them again and spread the word far and wide.
That seems to have done the trick.

What was his problem the first 2-3 times you were together? Did he ever come up with an answer?

Laurie got a few different stammering explanations from him. They either didn't fit the facts or were self contradictory. I don't really know what the real trouble was but it seems to be behind us now.
