Obviously Fake Profiles

Recommended Posts

I was reading through old emails today on sls. Found a couple of emails between a friend of ours how we would compare profiles that were obviously fake. So why not make a thread.

One profile had a picture of the monitor of a porn star (you could barely see the beginning letters of bangbus on the lower righthand corner. Funniest thing about it was how it didn't even look like a screenshot, it looked like it was probably a picture of the actual monitor.

Another profile you could just tell the pics were photoshopped, especially the one where they were "standing" next to each other (her head was almost freakishly big).

So how about you folks?

Be fair, not all of them are fakes. One couple in our area has figured out how to photo shop to make themselves look more interesting. Their pix on a postcard from here and there. What really makes it funny is that they are wearing teh same clothes in all of them. Either makes them look pathetic for trying to look sophisticated or nasty for wearing the same outfit everywhere they go. They are real though as we do know them and have avoided letting them know who we are.

True, many of the pretenders who infest the swingers' Web sites give themselves away with their obviously doctored pictures. One guy ambushed me with an SLS Video Chat at 4:00 am, aimed his Web cam at a computer monitor showing a porn site and types the message, "My wife is asleep right now and can't come to the computer but this is her picture".

BUT, as Cpl2share pointed out, there are profiles that look suspicious but are posted by earnest people. There are two people who live three miles from us who have a profile picture that looks like it was taken with a 1950s Polaroid camera, buried in soft peat for five years, handled by a thousand people, bent, folded, spindled and mutilated. But they are real. I proposed to the fella, "I'll take a nice picture of you and your wife for your profile," and he says, "Why? The one we have is just fine."

More than once I've seen a non-obvious fake profile that turns out they ripped the pictures off a real profile. Since the couples they rip off happen to be 100's of miles away it can take a while (if ever) for them to be discovered.

We actually had a "fake" couples profile send pic's of someone we knew... Had met...not only that he was using pic's from the same town... He is a jackass... So we told her about it. she handled it with the site and him...lol she knew exactly who he was as he liked to watch her cam... Some people are stupid and even lazy......

There are lots of red flags on pic's and such but the best way is when they don't even know where the local famous bar is...

We have actually had someone on here form across the country forward us a link to someone who stole our pictures on SLS. After SLS verified we were who we said we are they removed our pictures from the other profile.

Yeah we had a friend of ours get their pics stolen. Unfortunately they couldn't do anything about it since the ad wasn't on sls. It was on craigslist. Fortunately once they emailed the ad demanding they remove the pics they actually did.

Honestly, it is hard to tell the fakes. I'm on apg, and used to be on sls, and got accused of being fake a fair amount. For no other reason than I have professional looking photos up and am an decent looking 20 something single woman.

So, while I agree there are fakes (I ran into a lot on sls, particularly single women), you really can't assume most of the time.

That being said, occasionally there are some really obvious fake profiles, and those are usually worth a laugh or two, lol :)

Hehe, I have to be honest. When I see professional quality photos of a single female I automatically assume its fake.

That's unfortunate. I know several single females including myself that know people how do photos of either professional or near professional quality and have our photos done by them. I only want to show my best online, so why wouldn't I have professional stuff done if I can ;)

Admittedly, in my case it helps that the guy who does most of my photos is also my favorite play partner, lol, so I am never at a shortage of photos.

If I think a profile is fake I tend to go more by what is said in the profile than the photos.

I'd look at it from another prospective. Professional photos of attractive women are a dime a dozen on the internet. Very easy to grab and put up on a profile. Show a few of you in real life situations with people at a party or the like, non-professionally done and that 'fake' aura disappears quite a bit.

If you don't I'd add some real situation photos, it should help.

I have at times shown myself at a party or some other sort of "real" situation, but i generally avoid those as I prefer the professional ones for several reasons: 1)they tend to be less busy in the background and therefore more appealing visually 2)I dont really want to have any issues with other not wanting part of their body, etc showing in a photo(i blur faces, but have met some very picky people and 3) i am usually too busy having fun at "real situations" to worry abou having photos, therefore I don't have many.

Not arguing, just saying don't judge us simply because we only have professional photos up :)

We had a seemingly decent guy we've actually met in person (but never played with) send us a msg on SLS from a couple's profile telling us it's him & asking when we want to hook up. No pics on that profile, of course... plus when we met him, he introduced the guy he was with as his sister.... oops! She was definitely a girl upon speaking, but neither looked nor dressed like one (which, there's nothing wrong with that) but it definitely scratched him off the "possibles" list when they both went into a private room together with a group of 3 other girls.... We're no prudes, but !!!

I think the single males masquerading as a couple are pretty obvious....start a bit of conversation or email with them and you find out things like, she is out of town, or I am able to play alone. I personally love the term "married male half of a couple with a hall pass".

We post pics without faces and nobody else in the backround. For those we know, we allow a bit more, but still nobody elses face or identifying marks. Simply out of respect. All of our pics are in real situations which lends the legitimacy in our opinion.

a lot of couples dont even seek on the "swinger sites" anymore because they simply dont have the time to both sit down at the puter and try to sort out who is real and who is not. The site administrators claim that pics can't be stolen, but anybody with the SnagIt software can grab any pic and use it.

Hmmm.... Hope that wasn't us! I have been "profile challenged," in that I have been unable to figure out the various galleries very well.

Have it fixed now, though, ( I think) just in case you were referring to our profile! D&A

It's just the fact that the one "playing" doesn't even have a picture posted. It's like the "wife's" picture is the hook and the profile description is a dead worm. Things that make you go hmmmm?

I have gotten a kitchen pass to play before without her. So I understand playing alone sometimes.

Well - I don't think you are speaking of our profile then, since ours clearly states that I'm (the wife) playing! And, we have uploaded a photo of us together. (Think I figured out the "galleries!" Maybe....)

I'm glad, though, I read this thread and was able to correct a few things on our profile. Writing profiles for the first time is difficult and I'd bet it takes a few experiences first really to know what to put in one. I mean, it's difficult to know whether to be really gutsy, or somewhat tame, or.... And, I'm certain that, as experiences come and go, desires change. We "think" we know what we'd like - it may be an entirely different profile after a time or two!

There's a magic to being new at this - like the first time ever having sex, then the first time with my spouse, now the first time with .... a profile ever-evolving, right?

You shouldn't. I have some professional pics that were taken for a site that sells swimsuits. I think I even posted one on my SLS profile for a while.

We recently changed our profile to read "if you contact us as a couple with only photos of the lady or no photos at all your e-mail will be deleted and not even answered." We expect to see a couple in the photos or at least one of the guy, is that so wrong? It also says to "read our entire profile before contacting us", so they all should have read that part. So in the last week we have been contacted twice like this. Once was a couple who said they are new to the site and don't have pics up yet, the second one had only one photo of the lady. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and said there are only photos of the lady, didn't you read our profile (well they did since they said they loved our profile, WTF)? So what my question is, are we being duped by fake profiles and pic hunters or are these profiles just not complete? The couple who are new I replied to let us know when you have pics up but the one with only the lady pics might be fake. Thoughts?

To the original post: We have seen and continue to see obviously fake profiles - but I hesitate to point out on an open forum the many things that make them so easy to spot. it's kinda like a country putting it's battle plan on CNN - assuming the other guys don't have TVs is a bad idea.

Our opinion is that the old 'We're new to the site and havn't had time to put up pics/fill in the profile' thing sounds good..right up until the time you actually think about it.

Putting it bluntly, the Lifestyle is like any other pursuit - if you're going to do it, you're going to have to invest in the tools of the trade. In swinging, time is one of the tools that has to be invested. Years ago (at least 10), when digital cameras were in their infancy, a popular method of getting pics on one's profile involved taking a hard copy photo to Kinkos to be scanned, put on a disc (or 'floppy, LOL) for use on the computer. Being generous, this could take some time - however there were some back then who couldn't seem to get it done for months..often never. Fast forward to today, when even most phones have digital cameras in them - um..exactly how long do people expect others to believe it takes to snap a digital picture, transfer it to a computer, and upload it? I'll even allow time for cropping or blurring out faces - total time..maybe 10-15 minutes? Now..let me see if I've got this right - said person had time to start a profile, time to search other profiles for folks they found interesting (of course relying heavily on pictures provided on said profiles in making their choices), and time to fire off an introductory email - yet they don't have time to take a picture and post it.

As far as 'Her only' pics - it doesn't necessarily mean they are fake..it could be chalked up to they feel he's the less attractive of the two, and she's the bait. I believe the phrase is 'trophy wife'. My theory is that they are hoping that she is hot enough that others will let him play too in order to get a shot at her. Personally, we've never met a woman so 'hot' that my wife would 'take one for the team' for..so I have to wonder if it ever actually works. Oh - and the usual excuse given for not having pics of him is one of my personal favorites: "He is very well known in the community/job/Senate, etc"...but the smartass in me can't seem to get past the idea that if people know him that well, they probably know what his wife looks like too.

Thank you this is so true. We are into this for the both of US and the bait thing will never work since my wife needs to have an attraction and if the guy is dog ugly I wouldn't even think of asking. So the only pics of 'her only' thing will never work on us, since the guy must really be gross. As far as the digital pic statement that was my sentiment exactly. How friggin' hard is it to snap a pic even if it is from a camera phone (BTW, I see lots of them and it's better than nothing) not only that but everyone must have at least one photo of themselves on their computer these days. I think it was the second thing we did after creating our profile. Not sure if they are fake but definitely very lame. Our profile clearly says "if you want to peak our interest put a little effort into it". Just my rambling two cents.

Although seeing profiles with only pictures of the lady is a BIG pet peeve of mine, I don't think most of them are fake. There have been threads about this subject, that is, why so many profiles only have pictures of the woman. I don't intend to repeat the "reasons" some people have for this, since I don't think any of them are good. But we know many of these couples and have even played with a few. If someone contacts us online with no pictures of the guy, I always ask to see some. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. Occasionally I have even written to a couple with no pictures of the guy and asked for some. Pretty often, they add one or send one to an outside address.

Oh, and I used to think that a profile with only pictures of the lady meant either that they were not really swingers (fake profile or just not serious), or that the guy was a lot less attractive than his wife. I can say happily that I have been pleasantly surprised as much as any other result, upon seeing the gentleman or his picture.

It still annoys the hell out of me. :rollseye: But my main point is that there are many, many real profiles of real swinger couples, where the profile has only pictures of the woman.

Let me restate Chicups Law of Pictures: If there are only pictures of the female, there MAY be a real reason for the male not having his pictures up (high profile job or the like). If there are only pictures of the male, it is either a fake 'couples' profile, or the female is hideous. :D

We didn't have pictures of both of us up for a long time because I was always behind the camera, yeah, I know, I have a tripod and a remote for the camer, but never thought about it. But, we had a friend of ours take some pics of both of us just for putting up on the site.

You are entitled to your opinion an I mine but if someone has such high profile job why are they on these sites in the first place. First, if you are a Mayor or member of the government or whatever (just fill in the blank) and don't want anyone to find out then they shouldn't be there in the first place unless they don't care and BTW wouldn't everyone know his wife's photo. If they do choose to be on the site then why not a cropped shot or a blurred one? No one is saying that I need to see faces but simply a body of a guy and lady if they are indeed a couple. I an not sure if it would qualify as a fake profile but they sure smell like one. The other couple who contacted us with only lady pics has a tag line that says (new to site no pics yet) still has not respond to my mail from like 5 days and I know they read it and have been on everyday since then. As 'Pensacolapair' said how hard is it to post a pic from a phone? That only takes like 3 minutes to do. Our profiles clearly states our rule on only lady pics that all emails will be deleted and not even answered. I gave them the benefit of the doubt to try again and still got no answer so I have to think something is rotten in Denmark. Again just my newbie opinion. Anyhoo - the Willing29 rule is if you contact us as a couple we expect to see a couple and if not you email will not be answered (it says that right in our profile) and people still insist on doing it. Maybe I was just pissed or maybe confused as to why.

Our profile just has pics of me- not because he's ugly (he isn't) but because we don't have face pics of ourselves out there - like it or not, that's our decision- and the body shots of him just aren't as cool as those of mine in my club wear. It hasn't stopped us from getting emails and keeping busy. Maybe we're missing out on a whole group of people with those criteria (we're also a free ad, and that probably means others won't look at us). But we've met some great people so far, so not a big deal for us.

Well I can understand that the female is usually the nicer body (coming from a male) but if my wife were looking at your profile shouldn't she get to see something? We have no issues with no faces or pixilated pics but give us something (anything) for her to see first.

I agree! You aren't entering a photo contest here; you are trying to make contact with potential playmates!

I'm sure it hasn't gotten in the way of contacts, but it seems unfair to me that so often the women have to make contact blind, while the men have full knowledge (or damn close to it)!

And really, since you can put up dozens of photos, what's wrong with one "uncool" photo of your husband's chest, or heck, even a body shot of him dressed? Why is that asking too much?

My thoughts exactly.

I also find it amusing that so many men have "high profile jobs". Just get on a white T-shirt and a pair of jeans, stand in front of a beige wall, snap a picture and crop out your head. Blur out any tattoos. Unless you are missing an arm or something, there is no way to identify you. But your potential female playmates will have something to go on.

As Willing29 said, if it is a couples profile and both members expect to play, then we want to see both. Asking us to jump through an extra hoop is just going to decrease the chances we will ever meet.

-whew-

I've actually made a fake profile...for legitimate reasons.

we had another club join our message board under a false name. and any time we had a new couple introduce themselves, or say they were going to the parties we throw, they'd make up all kinds of BS (not clean, my wife got crabs from the beds, they force newbies to have sex with the staff first, ect) and then "come to our club we don't do that sort of thing"

problem is, I couldn't figure out which one was the false name...none of the newbies would tell me. so I started a false profile, complete with shoulders-down pics of me and an ex-girlfriend (with her permission, of course), joined the message board, and posted about "coming to our first party and we're pretty nervous"

like clockwork, a few hours later, the offending club sent us an e-mail about how truly awful our club was..according to him, we were a double-wide trailer (actually a house built in the 1890's) near a swamp (near the harbor) and the fake details got worse from there.

needless to say, I bounced him and let everyone know what was going on.

I haven't really used the profile since. but I think it was legitimate way to get rid of someone like that.
