Tips & Features you may not know exist

Feel free to post your own tips as you come across new features that you think are cool or helpful.


On the forums homepage you will see little arrow buttons on the right side in between various categories of forums on the board. If you are one who usually reads through each forum (rather than viewing overall new posts) then you may want to collapse the sections you don't usually read to make the forum list shorter.

Simply click the arrow button next to the category name of the category you don't want to show up on the forum home page and it will collapse to only show the category name and hide the forums within it.

You will notice that the list of smileys is a bit shorter than it used to be. However, there is a link underneath that says "more". If you don't see the smiley you want to use, click the "more" link. It will open a new window with more smileys to choose from and there you may find the one you wanted.

I will be adding more smileys soon as well.

Previously you only had one option when subscribing to a thread or forum. Well two I guess.... you could either not subscribe, or you could subscribe and get stuck recieving an email everytime someone replied to a thread.

Subscription options are one of the many new and improved features of the board. You now have 4 options when you subscribe to a thread:

1. Subscribe but not recieve any emails - this will list the thread on the main page of your User CP whenever it is updated.

2. Subscribe with instant notifications - same as the old way - you get an email EVERY time there is a new response.

3. Subscribe with daily notifications - each day you will get an email with any new posts to the thread.

4. Subscribe with weekly notifications - once a week you will get an email notifying you of any new updates to the thread.


To subscribe to a thread: From the thread you are interested in, click the "thread tools" drop down link (at the top of the thread), then select "subscribe to thread". This will take you to a new page with the options to choose from. Select the one you want and click the "subscribe" button and you are good to go.

When you follow the "Calendar" link you will be taken to the main Swinger Events calendar. This will soon be replacing the old Events Calendar (on the main site navigation bar). You also have the option of 2 other calendar's. One is the Birthday Calendar and lists all of the Registered Users Birthdays.

The third calendar is a "Private" calendar. You can use this calendar in many ways.
1. To keep track of events in your own life.
2. As a personal diary of sorts.
3. Any way you choose.

Only you can see your Private Calendar, other users can not view the events listed on it. So use it any way you see fit.

If you checked the "remember me" box when you logged in yet you return to the board at a later time to find that you are not remembered and have to sign in again.... here's what you need to do.


On your browser select "Tools" from the top row of options (file, edit, view, favorites, tools - is most likely the order and options).

Select tools then options. That will open your options screen. From there you will either see a tab for cookies or a button right on that page that says "Delete cookies".

Click the "Delete cookies" button then click ok. Then close all instances of your browser (any windows you have open). Re-open your browser then return to the Swingers Board and log back in (make sure to click "remember me"). Next time you leave and come back the site should actually remember you.

Posting a poll is fairly easy, and you can now even add a poll to your thread AFTER you have submitted it.

To post a poll: Click the "New Thread" button from whatever forum you want the poll to be in. Enter your message in the box as usual, then scroll down below the submit button and you will see some "additional options", including.... misc. options (signature, link parsing, etc), Manage Attachments (this lets you include an attachment with your post), Thread Subscription (to change your notification type to that particular thread) and then.......

Post a Poll.

Check the box next to "Yes, post a poll with this thread".
Enter the # for how many options you want in the poll.
Click Submit New Thread.

You will then be taken to another page that will allow you to fill in more details of your poll, what your poll question is, what options you want them to choose from, how long you want the poll to run, etc. Fill it all in, hit "submit" again and you are done.


To Post a Poll after you've already submitted the thread:: Find the thread you want to add a poll to, click the arrow next to "thread tools", just above the first post. A drop down list will appear. From that list select "add a poll to this thread". You will then be taken to the page to allow you to fill in the poll question, tell it how many options you want, then fill in the options, just as above.

If you use MyYahoo to keep up with news and such, you can now add the Swingers Board to your MyYahoo page and have it list new threads as they are posted to the board.

To do this, just click the "add to MyYahoo" button at the bottom right of this (or any) page.

In addition to the above.

If you are logging in only to find that you are immideately being logged back out (not really being logged in at all).

1. Check the "remember me" box and try again.
2. If 1 doesn't work, try the fix listed in post #1


Still not staying logged in.

- Check your browser and firewall settings concerning
a) cookies - make sure you are accepting them (at least from swingersboard.com)
b) referring pages - make sure that your firewall is allowing for the passing of information concerning referring/ referral pages.
c) IP information - the (forum) software must be able to detect IP information. If you are using an IP blocker or proxy server, you will have problems.

For the first time today, perhaps I am a little slower then normal, but this evening I saw a MSN guy on my post. I pointed to it and it said "send an instant message via msn". I didn't see anywhere before.
Is this new or am I just getting on board with the board?

I can remember seeing the little MSN icon since I started reading here.It often shares space below the avatar with Yahoo,ICQ and other messenger programs.I'd thought of using them once or twice,but I don't want to cross any politically correct lines.

There are often features that those of us who use them take for granted so I wanted to share this one.

To go directly to the newest posts in a thread since you last read the thread....

from the list of threads (either when viewing all the threads in a forum, or by clicking "new posts" on the top menu).

You will see to the left of the thread title a little downward arrow .

If you click this arrow INSTEAD of the thread title you will automatically be taken to the newest posts since you last viewed the thread.

The way that I usually surf the board....

Click on New Posts, which opens the list of threads that have unread posts.
Look at the list and see what looks interesting.
If it's something I've read before, I click on the arrow and go to the newest post.
If it's something that is brand new, I click on the thread title and go to the first post (I could just click the arrow even on these and it would still take me to the first post, since it's new and I haven't read it yet).
