Does anyone have any ideas on some sweet wines? I have yet to find a wine I can drink. I do not like those dry wines that make your face pucker. Thanks!

I would take Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir or Woodbridge Chardonnay or Sutter Home White Zinfandel. Price is not always indicative of taste, good or bad. facelick

I'm not into sweet wines..but had you thought about having a liqueur instead?
Nothing like whipping something up with Godiva or having some Calvados.

Pinot Noir is not a sweet wine if you are looking for no pucker in your tasting.
Try Columbis Crest Chardonnay or any of the Pinot Grigios.
I just found a NYS white, a Traminette by Castel Grisch, 2003 vintage, but I think this would be a local wine.
For a red, sangria or Lambrusco can be sweetened with fruit in addition to it's already above average sugar content.
Salut' e force' al canute............................

Added on later: I forgot that Columbia Crest has a VG Reisling you may like.
I'd love to hear if anyone tries these.........

One night, just for grins, we bought an inexpensive red table wine called "Menage a Tois." Long story short, we were blown away. This is by far the best $9 bottle of wine we have ever had. In fact, it would be a deal at $18.

BTW, the name stems from the fact it is a trio blend - cabernet, Merlot and something else - LOL.

Other favorite names we have found are Fat Bastard, Master Libation and Eat Me!

We have had "Menage a Tois" too. Be bought on a whim but it was not bad. Have also had Fat Bastard - which is okay to us. But have not had the others that you listed.

Ok. I've worked with and had by far my share of wines.
The first question I would have is are you looking for White or Red.
With technology the way it is, and people's ever so quickly growing interest in wine, it is very easy to find a good bottle of wine for under $20. California offers many good choices, but I find most of them to be overly priced. However, if you don't mind spending the money, Napa Valley seems to be all rage. Even though Australia offers good Red wines, this is the section of the store I look in when I want a nice White wine. Greg Norman is one vineyard I tend to back to over and over. When it comes to Reds, I often find myself in the Chili section. Their inexpensive labor and excellent weather conditions offers the consumer an ample wine for a respectable price. Jacob's Creek as well as Santa Carolina offer decent bottles that you won't pay much more than $10 for. I go on and on, but I don't have that much time.

Some of the Australian wines are excellent. We personally love "Taylors Cabernet sauvignon" . Affordable but top shelf.

Two Buck Chuck is what I would recommend too. If you run over to Cost-Plus Market you can usually get a great wine bag to put it in. The wine bags are the perfect size for toys too. Just an FYI.

none of the wines suggested to you in the previous replys are sweet wines. You would probably like a riesling from Germany. They have a high residual sugar level and most Americans find them "sweet"..tho they truly aren't. Start with an Estate Riesling then try a Kabinett, which has more Residual sugar

And if you want it really sweet, try an "Ice Wine". These generally are a riesling wine from Canada. (Yes, Canada). The grapes are picked frozen, and this concentrates the sugars. They aren't very cheap though.

We have a local winery here in SWVA called Chatteau Morrisette, and they offer an ice wine called Frosty Dog. They freeze the grapes (Vidal Blanc) after picking them though. Once again, not cheap. A 375ml bottle runs about 24 bucks. It has quite the "kick" too, so drink in moderation!

I like Asti Spumante for romantic wining, although a Merlot is nice, too. The Asti goes especially well with hot tubs.

I recently discovered an apple schnapps from Germany called Apfel Korn made by Berentzen. It tastes like apple juice, but with a kick. A bit pricey: here in Tennessee it's about $27 a bottle.

HotCoupleGnS,

My wife does not drink wine for the exact same reason you stated. However, I did find a wine she will drink. I can't tell you a brand, but the type of wine is Moscato. It is a sweet sparkling wine and my wife loved it. That may be an option for you. Check it out, I think you will like it.

There is a winery in Indianapolis called Easley Winery, who have wonderful wines. They are on the internet, www.EasleyWinery.com. When we go to Indy, we always buy a case, but I think you can buy their wine online. And the price is reasonable.

For those of you in Indiana, or anywhere close to southern Indiana, have you tried Huber's Winery? They are near Corydon, and are ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! Whenever we go, (always in the fall, and then a few other times of the year), we always get the Catawba Rose, Starlight White, and Blueberry Port (great with dessert). We will split a case with one or two friends, and pick out what we want in the case, often a mix of wines and ciders. (You can mix and match your own cases.) Since the new passage of the federal law that allows wineries to ship outside of their own states, Hubers is currently fighting the constitutionality of Indiana's law against interstate traffic of wine. I know they have a website, www.huberwinery.com, but currently, shipments of wine are sent at the discretion of the receiver. Not only do they have wine, but Hubers is also a family farm and restaurant, and they offer many delicious fruits, veggies, cheeses, breads, jams/jellies, and candy. As you can tell, I LOVE THIS PLACE! Most wine and cider prices range from approximately $7 to $25-30, all very affordable when you think how much a good bottle of wine is. When I want a really good wine, its either Hubers, or a nice Reisling from any local liquor store.

Also, the winery has daily tastings, and you can get a tray of 6-8 small tasters, try all the wines, and choose your favorites. Be careful, though, make sure you write down your favs. Otherwise, you could end up too buzzed to remember them! (Its happened to many of us on a wine-tasting weekend! )

So, who's ready for a wine-tasting? I am! facelick
