Default Re: Best theme for party or If you are not into themes - one you might consider

Oh, I've been to a few "theme-nights" at parties ... some have been really fun & others - well, not quite so much. (And the question of exactly HOW "themed" you want to stay throughout the night)

Halloween is usually the spark that starts this ... (everyone shows up in costume & masks) ... but depending on your costume, this could be REALLY difficult to get in & out of your costume to do any sort of play. If it's too much trouble to get back into - then the theme quickly gets dropped & everyone is just running around semi-dressed / naked. (Not that this is a bad thing!)

Prom Night ... my friend tried this one a few months ago. A chance to get "dressed up" and wear those fancy clothes. A Prom King & Queen were crowned & everything.

Mardi Gras ... a fun theme where people toss beads back and forth as a souvenier / reward to the guests.

Homecoming ... basically a jocks & cheerleader's theme. Guys dress up to re-live their sports fantasies ... and the gals dress up to give the guys their cheerleader fantasies.

Bacchanal ... a REAL fun theme. Togas. Wine. Laurel Crowns. (A very minimal outfit means there's lots of naked people!)

Casino Night ... poker takes on a whole new meaning (*wink wink*). Guests are encouraged to "gamble" with each other for chips / clothing / favors / rewards. The party I went to had guests fill out an "application" if they wished to participate in a midnight-auction and guests could bid on the applicants with the chips they'd won throughout the night.

Black-Out Night ... I've yet to do this as a full-party theme, but I've had some friends do this as a specialized room at a party. The lights are out and you can't see ANYTHING in the room (furniture is removed & replaced with pads / mattressed on the floor for obvious safety reasons) ... everything is done in the dark & you have to rely on all your other senses to find & play with your partner(s)

A silly theme I came up with a few years ago was to have a "Caveman Party" -- show up in loin-cloths & furs ... (NO SPEAKING once the theme goes into effect) ... you have to "talk" to each other only in caveman grunts and gestures.
