everything I've ever read is that the herpes virus doesn't survive for more than a few moments away from the body.

I can see where it might be an issue if you have an outbreak and jump out of the shower and towel off your genitals or face or whatever and then move on to another part of your body at that same time.

I doubt that toilet seats, bath tubs, hot tubs, or anything like that has much, if any, likelihood of transferring the virus.
