Folks, I am confused here, not ignorant or stupid, just confused, so I am going to read up on this subject more under medical forums elsewhere, but....I have had cold sores ever since I can remember, maybe starting at 4-5 yrs old, my dad had them as well. When I was younger you could get a vaccination for them, it was either measles or mumps, but you can't get it now.

I have been married x2, been with a few men in my time as I am 57 yrs old, but have NEVER passed this on to anyone to my knowledge. I tell my kids, grandkids, my b/f if I have an outbreak, don't kiss me, I have cold sores!! I would never go to a club and/or party with a mess of them on my lips and I don't have oral sex during that time either. But at the same time, I don't think it is something I need to share with the world either, that I have the virus. Geez, cold sores are very common!! I was told that MY cold sores are caused by my stress and that's what causes an outbreak. I was also told it is a virus and most people have it, just depends on your make-up as to whether or not you will have an actual breakout.

I am going to do some further reading...and will post when I do!! Thanks for all the input though, seems most are as confused as I am. Hugs, Sharon
