If we are meeting with another couple and we've not met before, we'd prefer to meet at a club. At least if it doesn't work out, then all can happily go on their separate ways.
When we met with single men, it was easier to meet at a bar or coffeehouse.
I really prefer meeting at a club now. It's just easier and no pressure. If we don't hit it off, I still have a nice night out with The Spousal Unit, and others have the option to do as they see fit. Far more effective for our time and money IMO.
