Nice post, Lee. There seems to be views all over the place on the lifestyle terms you identified. In our experience we’ve encountered some pretty judgmental folks who seem to have proprietary knowledge of the meaning and application of these terms.
To us:
Swingers: People who have sex, including sexual (non-intercourse) play, outside of their primary relationship. Many, many unmarried (i.e. Spouse) individuals and couples play sexually with others, so in our view Swingers are not limited to married couples.
Soft Swingers: People who only have sex with their primary partner in the presence of others who are also enjoying sexual relations with only their primary partner.
These two definitions get pretty cloudy when trying to define oral sex. Some Soft Swingers we’ve encountered believe that Oral Sex with someone other than their primary relationship partner constitutes Soft Swinging. Others maintain that conduct crosses the line into being a Swinger.
We are right with you on your definitions of Voyeurs and Exhibitionists.
We’ve been a full swap couple. However we have found our erotic niche playing within the boundaries of soft swinging and letting the sexual play evolve to where ever it may, within the closed circle of two married couples who have taken the time to know each other as friends prior to spicing things up by sharing body parts.
