I think what you'll find is that the type of meet ups that are usually set up through this site are completely different than those set up by other groups or clubs. I think, too, one thing that really helps our meet ups is that everyone has kinda had a chance to get to know each other before the meet up ever occurs, so it's not really just a bunch of strangers (even if no one has ever met in real life).
