Default Tongue Piercings

Ok, last Saturday night, I got a new tat and my tongue pierced. As usual with my tats, it was no big deal. But the tongue piercing...OMG it friggin hurt. And I have a high pain tolerance, but this brought tears to my eyes. The guy who did it, said beforehand it was virtually painless. Considering tats, and other piercings. He seemed to know what he was doing. He was looking at my tongue well, checking with a pen light for blood vessels so he didn't hit one. The whole nine yards. On the way home, my tongue is hurting BAD. So bad I was chewing on ice like it was candy, and it still hurt. My question, is this level of pain normal on a tongue piercing?

When I got home I hurt so bad, I took it out. I was thinking "why suffer through this pain for a damn piece of jewelry?" Not to mention I was told not to smoke for a week and no food for three days. As soon as I took it out, the pain stopped. My tongue bled like a stuck pig though for an hour. Took more ice to get it to stop bleeding. Did he do something wrong? Or was I being a big ass baby LOL?

I really wanted my tongue pierced. And if it was just the piercer, then I don't have a problem looking for someone else. Or is this normal and I should just give up having it done?
