OK I am going to reveal my secret to you, but just this once.
My wife and I encountered a similar situation, the husband of her girlfriend, had a bad case of bad breath, great guy but she couldn't get comfortable to close to his breath.
Rather than my wife embarrass him, I told my her I would handle it.
So I told the guy, and I told him in the strictest confidence, all the while lying through my teeth, that when I chew 2 specific flavors of gum (I said spearmint and pepermint trident), my wife will melt in your hands.
He of course thought I was full of crap, so I dared him try it, and lets just say that now this guy will never go near my wife without 2 packs of gum in his pocket, and of course my wife thanked me for this, because she was able to find out what a great lover this guy really is, without staying below the neck.
