I think it could go either way, really. I found myself pining for all the attentions I had (really slutty past) and found acceptance (and much safer fun) for this sort of behaviour "in the lifestyle."
I've met my share of couples though...many who have been drawn to swinging from a completely opposite place and wanting to make up for lost time and opportunity. <EG>
