I suppose it should be said how to try them out.

At the bottom of any page, on the left, you can try out any of the skins on a temporary basis by using that drop-down.
Or you can go to User CP, Control Panel, Edit Options, Miscellaneous Options and change the Forum Skin there - save changes, and then all of the board will stay with the chosen skin until you change it again.
I've found it takes getting used to anything new, and that's why I give everything a try for at least a week, unless of course I absolutely hate something the moment I lay eyes on it.
