I (the male half) did some research on it before I embarked upon what I do
Since I assume you have let it grow for years, you will need to trim with either scissors or an electric razor and put like a 1 or 2 on it.
Then go out to the store and buy 2 things that are very important. One is shaving creme that is specific to sensitive skin. This is pretty cheap I believe. The razors are the other things you need to buy and they need to have aloe at the top, again for sensitive skin. The razors cost around 6 bucks for 4 but they are well worth it. My wife tried to get me some cheaper ones once, and never will I do that again!
The next, probably most important part, is to be very patient. Put some shaving creme on, go VERY slow, and rinse the razor often. Lather back up when you need to and go very very slow.
Each time I shave down there (about once every 2 weeks to a month), I take at least a half hour so you won't want to be in a rush when you do embark upon this expedition
