Try using rubbing alcohol to clean them. Water and soap are OK but since they are so porous, some bacteria and other things may still remain even from the soap itself. Alcohol really gets in there and kills that stuff, then dry them off well. We store our toys in a dry, metal (old popcorn
) container, and all our jelly toys have lasted quite some time without your described problem.
